The Institute at HRC

The Institute at the Harm Reduction Coalition is a national training and capacity-building initiative that promotes the health and dignity of individuals and communities impacted by drug use by providing skills-building activities to service providers and other community stakeholders. The Institute accomplishes this by offering technical assistance, trainings, informational workshops, social marketing, and mentoring on topics related to harm reduction; including substance use, opiate overdose, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis C.

The Institute, which includes the training institute formerly known as the Harm Reduction Training Institute (HRTI), is the first national training center focused exclusively on harm reduction. Its staff and consultants are skilled trainers and leaders with extensive experience in the field. The purpose of the Institute is to increase understanding of the harm reduction philosophy; build the skills necessary to implement harm reduction strategies; strengthen harm reduction leadership across a spectrum of disciplines and communities; offer professional development to people working in harm reduction; and develop an awareness of the attitudes that contribute to discrimination against drug users and other marginalized communities. The Institute will collaborate with any organizations or groups interested. The Institute is committed to providing high quality educational and training workshops that address substance use and the promotion of health and well-being to individuals, couples, groups, families and communities. We are committed to counselor development and strive to offer workshops on a range of topics related to reducing the harms from substance use and promoting health among clients and consumers.
